SIDC URSIGRAM 30509 SIDC SOLAR BULLETIN 09 May 2003, 1400UT SIDC FORECAST (valid from 1230UT, 09 May 2003 until 11 May 2003) SOLAR FLARES : Quiet conditions (<50% probability of C-class flares) GEOMAGNETISM : Minor geomagnetic storm expected (A>=30 or K=5) SOLAR PROTONS : Quiet PREDICTIONS FOR 09 May 2003 10CM FLUX: 092 / AP: 043 PREDICTIONS FOR 10 May 2003 10CM FLUX: 085 / AP: 037 PREDICTIONS FOR 11 May 2003 10CM FLUX: 080 / AP: 017 COMMENT: The ACE spacecraft recorded a shock in the solar wind at 05h00 UT, this morning. The solar wind speed increased from -an already very high value- of 775 km/s to more than 900 km/s and the density jumped up by an order of magnitude. This might mark the end of the coronal hole influence we have experienced in the last days. Yet, given the very high solar wind speed and the presence of yet another coronal hole, we expect continued geomagnetic activity at the minor storm level.
