SIDC URSIGRAM 30728 SIDC SOLAR BULLETIN 28 Jul 2003, 1230UT SIDC FORECAST (valid from 1230UT, 28 Jul 2003 until 30 Jul 2003) SOLAR FLARES : Eruptive (C-class flares expected, probability >= 50%) GEOMAGNETISM : Minor geomagnetic storm expected (A>=30 or K=5) SOLAR PROTONS : Quiet PREDICTIONS FOR 28 Jul 2003 10CM FLUX: 104 / AP: 025 PREDICTIONS FOR 29 Jul 2003 10CM FLUX: 106 / AP: 022 PREDICTIONS FOR 30 Jul 2003 10CM FLUX: 107 / AP: 024 COMMENT: Geomagnetic conditions have been quiet since noon UT time yesterday. The solar wind speed decreased to about 550km/s at 10UT this morning, but has just started to increase again due to the effect of a coronal hole in geo-effective position. We expect geomagnetic conditions to go up to minor storm level by the end of the UT day. Solar activity has continued at very low level the past 24 hours, but also looks set to increase, with the rapid growth out of the blue of the new sunspot group 81, and the appearance of the active sunspot group 83 at the eastern limb. We therefore expect a high likelihood of C-class flares.
