The magnetic structure of Catania sunspot group 87 (NOAA 0655) continues to simplify, so no more flares are expected from that group. Attention may shift towards a new kid on the block: at the east limb, Catania 90 is showing up, a return of Catania sunspot group 78 (NOAA region 0649), which produced several X-flares on its previous rotation. So far, however, EIT images indicate that this group has become far less active, so we expect quiet conditions to continue for now. Within a few days, we should see the return of groups 82 and 83 (NOAA 0652 and 0653). MDI far-side images indicate both these regions still have high magnetic flux concentrations. The solar wind speed increased a bit to 360 km/s, but the IMF remains mainly northwards and geomagnetic conditions are expected to stay quiet.
