SIDC URSIGRAM 40131 SIDC SOLAR BULLETIN 31 Jan 2004, 1245UT SIDC FORECAST (valid from 1230UT, 31 Jan 2004 until 02 Feb 2004) SOLAR FLARES : Eruptive (C-class flares expected, probability >= 50%) GEOMAGNETISM : Minor geomagnetic storm expected (A>=30 or K=5) SOLAR PROTONS : Quiet PREDICTIONS FOR 31 Jan 2004 10CM FLUX: 097 / AP: 016 PREDICTIONS FOR 01 Feb 2004 10CM FLUX: 101 / AP: 031 PREDICTIONS FOR 02 Feb 2004 10CM FLUX: 102 / AP: 028 COMMENT: Solar activity is clearly on the increase, with most of it originating from a new sunspot group (numbered Catania 51) at the east limb. This group has already produced several C-flares. More C-class flares are expected. The solar wind speed remains high (after a short small decrease it is currently back up at 600km/s) due to the coronal hole influence. So far, geomagnetic perturbations have remained rather limited, but minor storm conditions remain likely for the next few days.
