As a result of entering the high speed stream from the recurrent coronal hole the solar wind speed has increased and is presently steady at about 450km/s, somewhat slower than during previous rotations. The IMF has increased to >10nT and as a result of an initial Bz compnent of -15nT we expect the strongest geomagnetic disturbances to occur early during the fast stream transit. Solar activity is expected to be quiet though NOAA AR 0905 (Catania 72) is capable of another isolated C-class event like the C2.5 event from yesterday evening. At the time of writing no LASCO images are available so it is not possible to tell whether the flare was acompanied by a CME. If there was a CME then it would probably have an earth-directed component due to the location of the flare very close to disk centre. TODAY'S ESTIMATED ISN : 023, BASED ON 05 STATIONS.
